U.S. Department of Labor Nationally Recognized Apprenticeships

The U.S. Department of Labor defines apprenticeship as an “earn and learn” training model that combines work-based learning with related classroom instruction using the highest industry standards. It is a means to formalize work-based learning, so workers know exactly how to progress toward their career goals, and companies know who is on the path toward promotion into new positions or to replace retiring workers.

Businesses, workforce professionals, educators, and others are looking to apprenticeship programs as an effective way to start high school students and other youth on a career pathway that leads to good wages and opportunities for advancement.
