Congratulations to Mariana Gonzalez on being named one of the Students of the Week for September 25th. Mrs. Brewer nominated Mariana because she has been extremely kind and helpful with some of the other Spanish speaking students in her class. She is always happy to translate for a student or help them with directions. She is extremely respectful and kind to everyone! #LionPride
Mrs. Shive wanted to recognize Yaneth Fuentes as one of the East High Students of the Week for September 25th. Yaneth is by far one of the most hard working, kind, and responsible students. She goes above and beyond to not only perform well academically herself, but help peers rise to the challenge. Whenever needed, she translates for peers to help them understand teacher directions and assignment tasks. She even assists peers in forming new friendships with one another. Her leadership skills and work ethic are incredible.

Congratulations to Gagan Singh on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for September 11th. Gagan was nominated by Mr. Tinsley because he has really impressed him so far this year. AP Government is a class filled with unavoidable jargon that all of Mr. Tinsley's students struggle to understand and keep straight. For Gagan, it is a double challenge because English is not his first language. He regularly and respectfully asks questions, but it is clear that he wants clarification and not the answers, which Mr. Tinsley greatly respect. Mr. Tinsley is looking forward to the opportunity to get to know him and encourage him to share his unique cultural and religious experiences as the class explores the function of government together.

Congratulations to Kali Goettel for being recognized as one of the Students of the Week for September 11th. Mrs. Crable nominated Kali because she took the initiative to go above and beyond to help a new student in our class. There was a new student in class that is not fluent in English. Kali decided to help this student in class and also help me with translating questions. She is a great role model to those around her!

Congratulations to Mohammed Afaneh on being named Student of the Week for the week of September 11th. Mr. Fullmer nominated Mo because he is a great student, athlete, and man of faith. Seeing Mo grow and mature throughout his time here at FZE has been a treat to watch. Mo is the definition of committed. He works incredibly hard on the football field rarely taking a play off. In the classroom he earns above a 4.0 weighted GPA. The most impressive part is that every Friday, when we have football games, Mo goes and prays him jum'ah with the men of his faith. Mo then comes back to school and contributes on the football field. Keep being a positive impact on our school Mo and making FZE a great place to be!

Congratulations to Maria Velasquez on being recognized at Student of the Week! Mrs. Shive nominated Maria. She has made incredible strides since arriving at East her sophomore year. She immediately joined the soccer team and formed great friendships with peers. Maria is now involved in the CAPS program and taking fantastic steps to prepare herself for her future career in the medical field. Even though she is extremely busy between working outside of the school day, homework, and helping to care for her younger siblings, she goes above and beyond to help other students when they need it most. She demonstrates daily what faith and focus can do.
Congratulations to Jacob Rojano on being recognized as Student of the Week for September 11th. Mr. Montgomery nominated Jacob for his character, determination, sportsmanship, and work ethic. Last year was Jacob's first year on the tennis team. I couldn't of asked for a better player to have on our team. He volunteered to help every time we were in need. He showed up to events knowing he would not be playing in but came to cheer on his teammates. No one on the team worked harder than Jacob. This year I am so excited to have him in my classroom as well. Although we are only 2 weeks into the school year, I am still seeing the same determination and grit that I saw on the tennis courts. It has been an absolute pleasure to have gotten to know him.
Congratulations to Seth Elliot on being named as one of our Students of the Week. He was nominated by Mrs. Ancel due to his non-wavering positive attitude. Seth always shows up to class with a smile and is willing to work his hardest. I have witnessed his kindness to others in class as well. If another student is having a hard day, Seth will do his best to cheer them up and support them. Seth is an asset to East High and a model student to have in class.

Congratulations to the Cross Country team - Mia Tomlinson in 5th place, Marissa Crandall in 8th, Lily Erickson in 10th, Taylor Tomlinson in 11th, Ariana Davidson in 12th, Gracie King, and Scarlett Marolf- the team earned 2nd place in the open division at the Twilight Festival last weekend.
