Benjamin Rees was nominated for Student of the Week for December 11th by Mrs. Venneman. She reported Jian-Jian is an incredible person and wonderful student to have in AP Statistics. Despite his challenges with physical impairments and needing to be in a wheelchair again this year, he is super positive and always has a smile on his face. When I broke his microphone on the first day of using it (sorry again Jian-Jian!), he was very understanding and we worked together to figure out how to fix it. Jian-Jian is such a hard worker and never lets his obstacles stand in the way of reaching his goals. He is very bright, responsible, and gets along with everyone. I am so lucky that I get to have Jian-Jian in class. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Gavin Ralston on being named Student of the Week for December 11th. Mrs. Brigman nominated Gavin, for many reasons. She stated he deserves recognition for his remarkable qualities I have observed. Gavin has a friendly personality. He gives everyone in class nothing but respect in every encounter. He is extremely conscientious and polite. I appreciate Gavin’s authentic and honest disposition. He ‘puts himself out there’ in a class that can be very intimidating. He leads by example, which enables others to be courageous, too. As a student in my Precalculus class, he is always willing to participate in class discussions and contributes daily to problems we work together on the board. I want to recognize Gavin’s excellence in work ethic. This course has topics and required discipline and rigor that is quite different than previous math courses. The class is a shock to even the brightest students. However, I believe his level of discipline, focus, and responsibility allows him to tackle the material successfully. I am so pleased with his readiness for the content and daily contributions to class. When encountering a difficult assignment, he is organized and prepared to ask specific questions. His hard work will pay off! I am incredibly thankful to have such a diligent student.

Congratulations to Kamryn Strong on being named Student of the Week for November 20th by Mr. Fischer. He has really seen Kamryn exponentially grow from freshman year to this year and wants to recognize Kamryn before she leaves us to go to McCluer High School. Kamryn’s transformative journey serves as a testament to the power of self-reflection, perseverance, and a genuine desire for positive change. Through sheer determination and an unquenchable thirst for self-improvement, she has overcome numerous challenges and emerged stronger and more resilient than ever before. I can go on and on about her transformation but I really wanted to let her know that I see her and she is doing great things.

Kevin Mahaney was nominated for Student of the Week for November 20th by Ms. Bednar. She chose Kevin because of his kindness and hard work, as well as the unique perspective he brings to East High as a student with two parents who are hard of hearing/deaf. As a language teacher, I can only imagine the challenges that Kevin must have faced as he learned English himself and think it would be valuable for others to learn about his unique circumstances and how it has affected him as a person as well as his day-to-day life. Kevin knows a little bit of ASL but relies a lot on his parents being able to lipread to communicate with them, so even things that others may take for granted (like talking to a family member who is in another room without looking at them) require more attention and mindfulness. He and his family have a camp that they have gone to for many years that is for people who are hard of hearing/deaf where they are able to connect with others who are deaf. This is Kevin's first year at East, and it was immediately apparent what a kind, intelligent, and hardworking he is. Unfortunately, not long into the school year, Kevin started having health problems that kept him from being able to attend school. However, Kevin showed initiative and responsibility by emailing his teachers requesting work to do at home to try to stay on top of his work. When Kevin was eventually approved for Homebound instruction, I gladly accepted the invitation to work with him knowing how awesome of a person he is. Kevin has been working hard to get caught up in his classes despite his health challenges, and I know that Kevin will continue to overcome challenges as he works through his homebound and eventually returns to school. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Tray Ellis on being name Student of the Week for November 20th. Tray was nominated by Mrs. Vogt. Tray is new to East High this year and that wasn't an easy transition being it's his junior year. From the first day in Child Development he came in with a smile, ready to ask questions and participate. Oh, and he's the only male in that class too!! Again, it could not have made the start to his new school an easy one, though he never showed that it bothered him. Thanks for all you add to fifth hour Tray!

Congratulations to Quinn Matthews on being named Student of the Week for November 6th. Mrs. Lambermont nominated Quinn and noted that Quinn's journey at our school has been an inspiring testament to the power of determination and perseverance, and it's an honor to acknowledge her for her incredible growth over the last four years. From the moment Quinn entered our school, she was a shining star, but she carried a cloud of shyness that concealed her true potential. Over the years, Quinn has not only managed to conquer her academic hurdles but has also made remarkable strides in building meaningful friendships and cultivating relationships with her teachers. Her ability to break down the walls of her shyness has opened doors to a world of personal and academic growth that has been nothing short of astonishing.

Maya Gaines was name one of the Students of the Week for November 6th by Ms. Cork. Maya was selected to play in DPL Nationals All Star Game this season and from that game was recognized as a top performer. Through this she was selected to represent US PDL in London for a week-long training over Thanksgiving Break. She does all of this over the summer and fall while still having to carve out time for studies and visiting her father in Arizona for extended periods of time .

Congratulations to Carlos Alarcon on being named one of the Students of the Week for November 6th. Mr. McHaffie nominated Carlos. In 2022, Carlos Alarcon embarked on his apprenticeship journey with Quest Specialty Products, a company specializing in machining. Despite having limited experience with CNC machines, Carlos diligently put in the effort and actively listened to his supervisors' guidance. His dedication quickly earned him a position as one of the highest-paid apprentices in the district, and his achievements have even been featured in national publications. This fall, Carlos will make history as the first apprentice from East High to successfully complete the program, earning both a nationally recognized certificate and 45 hours of college credit. With aspirations to further his education in Advanced Manufacturing and Machining, Carlos is well on his way to becoming one of the most accomplished and in-demand machinists in the region. Remember, hard work and perseverance always yields results!

Congratulations to Audree Mast on being named one of the Students of the Week for October 30th. Mrs. Sansone said she has really enjoyed getting to know her over the years. Even when Mrs. Sansone didn't have Audree in class last year, she always made it a point to stop by and say hi. Audree is very talented artistically. I am always impressed by her beautiful artwork. Although, Math may not be her favorite subject, Audree always works hard and tries to push herself to do her best and achieve her goals. She is friendly and kind. Audree is a positive asset to East, and we could all be a little more friendly and thoughtful like Audree!!

Meghan Kester was nominated by Mrs. Ofem as one of our Students of the Week for October 30th. Meghan is a joy to have in the classroom. Meghan consistently goes above and beyond to assist her peers, whether it is lending a hand during meal preparation or offering encouraging words to boost morale in the kitchen. Her kindness and patience are not only a source of inspiration, but they are also a testament to her commitment to creating a positive learning environment. Congratulations to Meghan!

Congratulations to Geydi Jimenez Sanchez on being named one of the Students of the Week for Oct. 30th. Mrs. Carter nominated her because of her overall character and integrity shown in class. She is always positive and comes to class with a smile. Art is a passion of hers, and it shows through her work! She does not let the language barrier stop her from asking questions and creating beautiful works on art in class! It has been a pleasure helping her grow through her artwork!
