Congratulations to Avery Litz for being nominated Student of the Week for 10/16 by Mr. Willis. He states one inspiring achievement of overcoming obstacles is Avery Litz, a determined high school student-athlete. She has been challenged this semester in managing rigorous academic demands while committing to intense softball practice and games. Through hard work, time management, and a strong support system from her friends and teachers, Avery not only maintained good grades but also grew as a new player on her softball team. Her dedication and ability to balance these two important aspects of her life inspired her teammates and classmates. Her achievement serves as a testament to the idea that hard work and dedication can lead to success in multiple areas of life.

Lonnie Land was nominated for Student of the Week for October 9th by Ms. Davis. Lonnie is inspirational to his fellow classmates. Using skills from Intro to Leadership and skills he learned on his own, Lonnie creates an inclusive table group. He participates in class discussions, helps others stay on task, and shows kindness and maturity in his interactions with others. His classmates respect his style of leadership. I think Lonnie will make a great leader someday soon and he deserves some recognition for being an outstanding student. Congratulations Lonnie!

Congratulations to Mariyah Lacey on being named Student of the Week for 10/9! She was nominated by Mrs. Black. Mariyah works hard in her classes and strives to do well. She recently shared with me her transition from another school that was a very different experience from East High. We talked about the "culture shock" (sociology key term) she must have experienced between the schools. She mentioned how she has focused on her grades this year and has a new outlook with future goals in mind. It is wonderful having Mariyah in class this year (twice!).

Congratulations to Diamond Brice on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for October 2nd. Mr. Langston nominated Diamond because she has overcome many obstacles in her life to get to where she is now. Even with all the challenges she has faced she is now a Senior and I am very proud of her accomplishments. Her grades last year were the best she ever received. According to many, her attitude and behaviors last year were the best they had ever seen. I watched her grow academically, emotionally and socially over the last school year and I am very proud to witness it all. She is always thinking about others before herself. Diamond will help someone if she is able to or point it out to others if she sees there is a need. She always has a smile on her face and wants to continue to grow as a person. #LionPride

Congratulations to Terrell Ivory on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for October 2nd by Mrs. Jamieson. Terrell was nominated for his entrepreneurial mindset. Terrell shared with me early this school year that he is starting his own clothing line called Rich Reality. The tagline for his business is "Young Dreams Becomin Reality". He has a graphic design and has started his website. The website is not live yet because he is working out payment logistics. He is designing the clothes himself and has even wore a few pieces here to school. Terrell has shared that he has a long-term vision to own several businesses in the future. I believe this young man embodies initiative, innovation, and optimism for his future beyond high school. Since coming to East last school year, I have observed a work ethic in Terrell. He stays after school from time to time to catch up on school work and is driven to succeed. #LionPride

Mrs. Shive wanted to recognize Yaneth Fuentes as one of the East High Students of the Week for September 25th. Yaneth is by far one of the most hard working, kind, and responsible students. She goes above and beyond to not only perform well academically herself, but help peers rise to the challenge. Whenever needed, she translates for peers to help them understand teacher directions and assignment tasks. She even assists peers in forming new friendships with one another. Her leadership skills and work ethic are incredible.

Congratulations to Gagan Singh on being named one of East High's Students of the Week for September 11th. Gagan was nominated by Mr. Tinsley because he has really impressed him so far this year. AP Government is a class filled with unavoidable jargon that all of Mr. Tinsley's students struggle to understand and keep straight. For Gagan, it is a double challenge because English is not his first language. He regularly and respectfully asks questions, but it is clear that he wants clarification and not the answers, which Mr. Tinsley greatly respect. Mr. Tinsley is looking forward to the opportunity to get to know him and encourage him to share his unique cultural and religious experiences as the class explores the function of government together.
