How do you grow graduates interested in STEM? You start by showing little learners all the things STEM can be. At St. Peters Elementary, Science Day was a school-wide hands-on exploration, including activities led by visiting teachers from DuBray Middle and East High. There was even a “lab” with East High’s Project Lead The Way fourth-year Biomedical students. Each year, East High teacher Carrie Stowers and her students work to connect with the community. This year that meant inspiring future explorers by using simple items from the kitchen (and some super-cool goggles) to illustrate how compounds react to each other. #FZCommunity #FZEquipToExcel

Congratulations to Audrina Miller on being named one of the Students of the Week for April 22nd. Mr. Ogles says Audrina epitomizes not just academic excellence but also resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination. Despite facing profound loss just a few months ago, Audrina has displayed remarkable strength and maturity. Her ability to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity is truly inspiring. She has not allowed her personal struggles to hinder her academic performance or her interactions with peers and teachers. Audrina has and continues to be a source of positivity and encouragement for her classmates. Audrina's resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination make her a truly deserving candidate for the Student of the Week recognition. She embodies the spirit of our school community and serves as an inspiration to us all.

Keenan Williams was named one of the Students of the Week for April 22nd. Mrs. Quinones says Keenan is a pleasure to have as a student. Aside from being an exemplary student, his good character shines through in whatever he does. He is a positive influence for his peers, highly responsible, and is continuously helpful and courteous to anyone around him. Keenan is always in a pleasant mood, has on a smile to brighten your day, and is a joy to be around. He continuously displays an optimistic attitude with whatever is asked of him, and is a perfect example of positive peer influence. His dedication to his goals, as well as his consideration for others, will lead him to a successful future in whatever path he chooses. Congratulations, Keenan!

Congratualtions to Claire Gwak on being named one of the Students of the Week for April 22nd. Mrs. Hayes says from the first moment she met Claire years ago to these final pages of her high school career, she has always worked tirelessly to lift her community. In the classroom, she is a vital part of the social fabric of our class...leading discussions, rallying classmates, and providing positivity. In our school, she works vigorously in Stuco to plan homecoming, honor veterans, raise money for Special Olympics, and celebrate teachers at our end-of-year luncheon. Outside of East, she works along St. Louis Youth Ambassadors to spread awareness of the Korean culture. Additionally, she has presented to local fire stations about the importance of raising money for baby boxes to be installed in St. Louis. However, what has my heart is her plight to help ELL students in our school. She realizes that state testing does not always afford them the ability to have reading passages/test questions translated in their many native languages. Claire has been lobbying for change--contacting lawmakers and planning to speak at a future Zumwalt board meeting. Some students dream of a better future, a brighter community. Not Claire. Day by day, mission by mission, she is enacting real change. I couldn't be more proud of her many awe-inspiring efforts.

Congratulations to Alice Zagromov on being named one of the Students of the Week for April 8th. Ms. Stowers states throughout this school year, Alice has been an absolute joy to have in class. Her kindness and thoughtfulness towards her peers and teachers make her stand out as a shining example of what it means to be a compassionate individual. Not only does she excel academically, but she also works tirelessly to maintain a healthy balance between her schoolwork and her life outside the classroom. It's evident that Alice approaches each day with a positive attitude and a determination to make the most of every opportunity. Her dedication to her studies and her commitment to being a well-rounded individual make her truly deserving of this recognition.

FZE Staff & Students experienced the Solar Eclipse on April 8th on the football field.

Reagan Carr was named one of the Students of the Week for April 8th by Ms. Bailey. Reagan is a ray of sunshine. She brings an energy to class that is irreplaceable. When she is absent, our class does not feel whole. Reagan has a smile that lights up the room and a laugh that is contagious. Her positive attitude speaks volumes to her character, and she is just a good human being. Reagan's ability to remain positive despite the challenges that she has faced is remarkable to me. She has been dealt hardships that no teenager should have to think about, yet she still leads a life full of kindness and optimism. Congratulations, Reagan!

Congratulations to Tyler Baxter on being named one of the Students of the Week for April 8th by Mr. Munro. Mr. Munro stated Tyler started the year struggling in math. He had trouble focusing, because of his previous poor experiences with math. Throughout the year Tyler has gained confidence, speaking in classroom discussions, reminding himself and other students to get "locked in" when taking notes and working on assignments. Recently he shared with the class that it's important to keep their grades up, because grades they get as a Freshman will follow them in their gpa, and could effect their chances at college admissions. This is a very mature attitude, one that not many upper classman realize. I am proud of how hard Tyler works to be successful.
